Julia Biłat expands the cello solo format, creating emotional and intense musical structures shaped by cello, body, voice, and movement. Her work moves between improvisation, composition, and performance, where sound and performative presence become inseparable. Zuza Jasińska & Simon Jermyn present a dialogue of voice and bass. Zuza, a vocalist and composer, blends folk-pop intimacy with jazz inflection and the fearless spirit of experimental improv. Her evocative voice is met by Simon’s intricate and sensitive bass work, creating a sound that is both delicate and powerful. A carefully selected, curated incense blend will accompany the auditory journey and deepen the evening’s atmosphere with its botanical aromas. Eucalyptus, for its clear, invigorating freshness, and Dittany (Burning Bush), for its purifying, mentally-sharpening tradition, will be smoldered. Julia Biłat – classically trained cellist, improviser and composer, lives in Berlin and move across classical, jazz, performance and experimental scenes. She performs with Stegreif.Orchestra, Camila Nebbia’s The Hanged One, and Fabiana Striffler’s Archiotic Quintet. She has composed and co-directed productions for Stegreif.Orchestra (most recently #bechange Hildegard von Bingen, 2022/23). Her solo work integrates improvisation, composition, and performance using cello, body and voice. Performances include Butohpolis Festival (Warsaw), Into The Open (Berlin), and Intermittenze (Catania).

Zuza Jasinska: “I am a vocalist based in Berlin, Germany. I compose and sing music like folk-pop, jazz, and experimental improv. I I was raised in Poland, in a city called Toruń, nestled by the Vistula River and famous for its gingerbread. There’s a moment caught on camera from when I was just a little bean—my mom turning to my dad and saying, “I’m telling you, she’ll be singing.” And here we are. I shaped my style by mimicking the sounds around me—it got so out of hand that I started calling myself a chameleon. Copy, paste, repeat. I loved it. Today, I sound more like me. I stopped copying, and it turned out pretty well. For now, that’s it. I’ll add more later.”

Simon Jermyn is an Irish guitarist and electric bassist based in Berlin, after 11 years in NYC. He leads his own band, Obsany and is a member of many more. He has worked with musicians including Jim Black, Aaron Parks, John Zorn, Chris Speed, Gerald Cleaver, Chris Lightcap, Anna Webber and many others. He holds a PhD from Ulster University in Northern Ireland and has performed at venues and festivals around the U.S. and Europe, including the Village Vanguard.

Eucalyptus
Dried eucalyptus leaves emit a fresh, camphor-like, invigorating scent. Traditionally regarded as clarifying and purifying, the smoke is associated with clear breathing, mental focus, and energetic cleansing. Because of its intensity, only small amounts should be burned; not recommended for people with asthma or small children.
Dittany (Burning Bush)
A rare and protected plant once used in traditional smudging practices. Its aroma is spicy-bitter with citrus and camphor notes. Dittany has long been considered purifying, protective, and mentally sharpening, used historically to bless spaces and ward off negative influences.

Julia Biłat erweitert das Format des Cello-Solos und schafft emotionale, intensive musikalische Strukturen, geformt durch Cello, Körper, Stimme und Bewegung. Ihre Arbeit bewegt sich zwischen Improvisation, Komposition und Performance, in der Klang und performative Präsenz untrennbar miteinander verbunden sind.
Zuza Jasińska & Simon Jermyn präsentieren einen Dialog zwischen Stimme und Bass. Zuza, Sängerin und Komponistin, verbindet die intime Klangwelt von Folk-Pop mit jazzigen Nuancen und dem furchtlosen Geist experimenteller Improvisation. Ihrer eindringlichen Stimme begegnet Simons vielschichtiges und sensibles Bassspiel und erschafft einen Klang, der zugleich zart und kraftvoll ist.
Eine sorgfältig ausgewählte, kuratierte Räuchermischung begleitet die musikalische Reise und vertieft mit ihren botanischen Aromen die Atmosphäre des Abends. Verwendet werden Eukalyptus für seine klare, belebende Frische sowie Diptam (Brennender Busch), der traditionell für seine reinigende und geistig klärende Wirkung geschätzt wird.

„Ich bin Sängerin und lebe in Berlin, Deutschland. Ich komponiere und singe Musik zwischen Folk-Pop, Jazz und experimenteller Improvisation. Aufgewachsen bin ich in Polen, in der Stadt Toruń an der Weichsel, bekannt für ihren Lebkuchen.
Es gibt ein Video aus meiner frühen Kindheit, in dem meine Mutter zu meinem Vater sagt: ‘Ich sag’s dir, sie wird einmal singen.’ Und hier sind wir nun.
Ich habe meinen Stil lange dadurch entwickelt, dass ich die Klänge um mich herum imitiert habe – so sehr, dass ich mich irgendwann selbst ein Chamäleon nannte. Copy, paste, repeat. Ich liebte es. Heute klinge ich mehr nach mir selbst. Ich habe aufgehört zu kopieren – und das hat sich ziemlich gut entwickelt. Für den Moment reicht das. Mehr kommt später.“
Simon Jermyn ist ein irischer Gitarrist und E-Bassist mit Wohnsitz in Berlin, nachdem er zuvor elf Jahre in New York City gelebt hat. Er leitet seine eigene Band Obsany und ist Mitglied in zahlreichen weiteren Projekten.
Er hat mit Musiker:innen wie Jim Black, Aaron Parks, John Zorn, Chris Speed, Gerald Cleaver, Chris Lightcap, Anna Webber und vielen anderen zusammengearbeitet.
Jermyn promovierte an der Ulster University in Nordirland und ist auf Bühnen und Festivals in den USA und Europa aufgetreten, darunter auch im Village Vanguard.
Eukalyptus
Getrocknete Eukalyptusblätter verströmen einen frischen, kampferähnlichen, belebenden Duft. Traditionell gilt Eukalyptus als klärend und reinigend; der Rauch wird mit freier Atmung, mentaler Fokussierung und energetischer Reinigung assoziiert. Aufgrund seiner Intensität sollte nur wenig verbrannt werden; nicht empfohlen für Menschen mit Asthma oder Kleinkinder.
Diptam (Brennender Busch)
Eine seltene und geschützte Pflanze, die früher in traditionellen Räucherritualen genutzt wurde. Das Aroma ist würzig-bitter mit Zitrus- und Kampfernoten. Diptam gilt seit Langem als reinigend, schützend und geistig klärend – historisch eingesetzt, um Räume zu segnen und negative Einflüsse fernzuhalten.
