Berlin-based cellist, improviser, and composer Julia Biłat bridges classical music, jazz, performance, and free improvisation. Her cello becomes a resonating body for voice, movement, and space – at times delicate and fragile, at times powerful and eruptive.
Now a Berliner by choice, Dudù Kouatè draws from the soundscapes of West African traditions. With drums, idiophones, and instruments made from recycled materials, he unfolds multifaceted rhythms and stories that weave together nature, culture, and his roots.
Jixing is the western way of rendering two ideograms : 即兴
The first, ji, evokes what is already here, ready and prompt, in an arm´s reach. The second, xing, is the desire, the excitement to do something. Jixing is the desire to make what is immediately at hand blossom and flourish, and that is the guideline of the curating work that Joel Grip and Simon Sieger develop.

Die in Berlin lebende Cellistin, Improvisatorin und Komponistin Julia Biłat verbindet klassische Musik, Jazz, Performance und freie Improvisation. Ihr Cello wird zum Resonanzkörper für Stimme, Bewegung und Raum – mal zart und fragil, mal kraftvoll und ausbruchsartig.
Der Wahlberliner Dudù Kouatè schöpft aus den Klangwelten westafrikanischer Traditionen. Mit Trommeln, Idiophonen und Instrumenten aus Recyclingmaterialien entfaltet er vielschichtige Rhythmen und Geschichten, die Natur, Kultur und seine Wurzeln miteinander verweben.
Jixing ist die westliche Umschreibung zweier Schriftzeichen: 即兴. Das erste, ji, evoziert das, was bereits vorhanden, bereit und unmittelbar greifbar ist. Das zweite, xing, steht für den Wunsch, die Begeisterung, etwas zu tun. Jixing ist der Wunsch, das unmittelbar Vorhandene zum Erblühen und Gedeihen zu bringen – und das ist der Leitfaden der kuratorischen Arbeit, die Joel Grip und Simon Sieger gemeinsam entwickeln.
