DE: Das elektronische Duo AIGEL wurde 2016 von der tatarischen Singer-Songwriterin Aigel Gaisina aus Kasan (Tatarstan) und dem Musikproduzenten Ilya Baramiia aus Sankt Petersburg gegründet. Nach der großangelegten Invasion 2022 machte die Band eine Anti-Kriegs-Stellungnahme, wurde in Russland verboten und verließ das Land. Aktuell lebt Aigel Gaisina in Berlin, während Ilya in Montenegro wohnt. Das Duo kreiert und performt auf Russisch, Tatarisch und Englisch.
Das Debütalbum der Band, 1190, erschien 2017 und thematisierte das Justizsystem und die Inhaftierung in Russland. Das Album erhielt große Aufmerksamkeit im Land. Im selben Jahr trat AIGEL in der Late-Night-Show Evening Urgant auf Channel One, Russlands wichtigstem TV-Sender, auf. Der Song „Tatarin“ aus diesem Album wurde viral, das dazugehörige Musikvideo erreichte über 118 Millionen Aufrufe auf YouTube und erhielt einen Berlin Music Award.
Das Musikvideo zu „You’re Born“ wurde zwei Tage nach der „Nulllösung“ von Putins Amtszeiten im Jahr 2020 veröffentlicht. Das Video zeigt eine alte Autoritätsperson, die durch ein christliches Ritual, bei dem sie in ein Eisloch taucht, verjüngt wird. Das Video galt als prophetisch und erhielt große mediale Aufmerksamkeit, gewann den Silbernen Löwen beim Cannes Lions Festival und über 15 Auszeichnungen bei Festivals weltweit, darunter der Berlin Music Award.
Im Herbst 2023 erreichte der Song „Piyala“ der Band, der auf Tatarisch geschrieben wurde, den ersten Platz in den globalen Shazam-Charts sowie den ersten Platz in den Apple Music und Spotify Top 100 in Russland, der Ukraine, Belarus, Lettland, Estland, Kasachstan, Kirgisistan, Usbekistan, Tadschikistan und Turkmenistan. Außerdem belegte er den 11. Platz in den Billboard TikTok Top 100. Das Musikvideo zu „Piyala“ erreichte innerhalb von 4 Monaten 40 Millionen Aufrufe.
Von 2017 bis 2024 veröffentlichte die Band über 30 Musikprojekte, darunter fünf Alben, und brachte 11 Musikvideos heraus, von denen 8 über eine Million Aufrufe erzielten, zwei davon wurden viral. AIGEL tritt in Europa und Asien auf und nimmt an Musikfestivals wie dem Exit Festival (Serbien), Pohoda Festival (Slowakei), Tallinn Music Week, Red Square Festival (Berlin) und anderen teil.

After the full-scale invasion in 2022, the band made an anti-war statement, was banned in Russia, and left the country. Currently, Aigel Gaisina is based in Berlin, while Ilya resides in Montenegro. The duo creates and performs in Russian, Tatar, and English.

The music video for the song “You’re Born” was released two days after Putin’s presidential terms were ‘zeroed out’ in 2020. The video depicts an elderly figure of authority becoming young through a Christian ritual of diving into an ice hole. The video was considered prophetic and gained widespread media attention, earning the Silver Lion at the Cannes Lions festival and winning over 15 awards at festivals worldwide, including the Berlin Music Award.
In autumn 2023, the band’s song “Piyala,” written in Tatar, reached the top spot on the global Shazam chart, as well as first place on the Apple Music and Spotify Top 100 charts in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. It also ranked 11th in the Billboard TikTok Top 100. The music video for “Piyala” reached 40 million views within 4 months.
