Workshop: Mapping queer migration

by Dana Bondarenko

P.A.N.D.A Theater
Knaackstr. 97

[Limited number of participants / please sign-up]

This workshop invites you to create your very own Map of Queer-Migration. You can visualize your journey and draw the map that tells your story!

In the first part of the workshop we will talk about queerness and migration. Inclusion & exclusion of queers in the state and the nation, official attitude towards (homo)sexuality as a new battlefield for “the West and the Rest”. Sexuality vs. nationality, the migrant as a queer person, the queer person as a migrant, queerness as a umbrella term for the different Others, etc.

Different artworks that challenge those dichotomies will be shown. They will serve as a starting point and inspiration for participants in the creation of their own maps that will describe their experiences of queerness and migration. In the end, participants will have an opportunity to open up and share their stories. At the same time logic and structure of the workshop allows participants not to share and keep their privacy to themselves.

We will draw and craft using different colors and materials. We will get vulnerable and triggered. We will get healed and inspired by each other’s stories of Queer-Migration.

With: Saltanat Shoshanova. She studied History of Arts in Vienna. Since 2016 continues her studies in Berlin. She works on queer and feminist art in post-soviet contexts.

For: Queers and allies with and without migration experience (queer people with migration experience will benefit from this workshop most)
